 Celtic Thunder - Christmas

Celtic Thunder - Christmas

COMING to a shopping centre near you ...

It’s early December, it’s just my third Christmas CD review and I’m almost defeated.

Nonetheless, these Celtic Thunder fellas have almost lifted my Scrooge-like spirits.

The Irish quintet’s repertoire flawlessly encompasses operatic standards, modern pop hits and plenty in between.

Christmas is a nice listen.

The CD opens with a warm take on It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas, sung by Neil Byrne, before a jazzy Winter Wonderland and a sizzling Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow stake their claims as highlights.

A take on Wham’s Last Christmas, a personal favourite, doesn’t stack up to the original but Paul Byrom’s stunning Ave Maria almost makes up for it.

And about the only thing missing from All I Want For Christmas Is You is Mariah Carey.

RATING: ★★★

IN SHORT: Uplifting

I agree that Celtic Thunder Christmas is a very uplifting CD. Just couldn't wipe the smile off my face as it played. We disagree only about their version of Last Christmas which I absolutely loved. It's even better on the DVD of the album. Just think Aussies get to see Celtic Thunder live when they tour OZ for the first time next February.
