The 22-year-old came to our attention thanks to a juicy hook on Far East Movement’s club hit Like A G6 and now delivers a lively debut steeped in dub-step, hip-hop and club-pop.
Lead single Bass Down Low and In My Trunk are certainly Black Eyed Peas-esque but Dev, who is produced by indie-pop duo The Cataracs, is no clone.
With tracks that range from middle east-inspired dance (Breathe) to soulful yet beat-heavy hip-hop (Getaway) and startling alternate pop-rock (the excellent Take Her From Me) and even folk (Shadows), The Night The Sun Came Up isn’t boring.
