Gorillaz - Plastic Beach (EMI)

THE world’s best virtual band is back!

Gorillaz, the brainchild of Blur frontman Damon Albarn and comic book artist Jamie Hewlett, have sold 15 million albums and interestingly played live on the odd occasion.

And so 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russell introduce album No.3 — and a radio-friendly pop jam is very hard to locate.

They do, however, have plenty of big name guests turning Plastic Beach into an eclectic all-star jam session.

Snoop Dogg helps open the CD in his imitable gangsta-funk style on Welcome To The World Of Plastic Beach while Lou Reed is typically bemused over a sparse hip-hop backing on Some Kind Of Nature.

Both are highlights, of course.

The single Stylo is dark and grubby with Mos Def spitting casually while Superfast Jellyfish, with De La Soul, is damn funky.

RATING: ★★★☆
