YOU’VE gotta admire a band recording in a lunatic asylum.
Brisbane’s Grand Atlantic did just that — an empty one, of course — with their latest release Constellations and it’s a little crazy. Crazy good, that is.
At various times reminiscent of Oasis, the Stones and even Jet, Grand Atlantic deliver a beefy sound which is showcased early on the rampaging Central Station Blues.
The musicianship here is top-notch yet unpredictable as Constellations ranges from the epic and soaring title track to the driving retro rock of Poison To The Vine and the Doors-esque drifter Voyager.
Not overly polished production-wise, I’d imagine Constellations captures the band in a similar vibe to it’s live show.
For mine, check out Queenie, the delightful acoustic closer and the big-beated rock gem Little Traps.
