Judith Durham - Colours Of My Life (Universal)

Judith Durham - Colours Of My Life (Universal)

SHE’S a national treasure and boasts, according to Elton John, ‘the purest voice in popular music’.

He should know, as Judith Durham recorded his song Skyline Pigeon 1971.

That track, with John on piano, is one of six never-before-released tunes to grace Colours Of My Life, a collection encompassing Durham’s 50-year career.

Another unreleased tune Moan You Mourners, an almost saucy number with Frank Traynor’s Jazz Preachers, was Durham’s first recording (and under the name Judy).

Her Seekers’ hits will be the most familiar here, especially the classic Georgy Girl and a stunning live take on The Carnival Is Over.

Further standouts include the 1967 title track and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Climb Ev’ry Mountain. Also includes the ABC’s Talking Heads profile documentary as a bonus DVD.

RATING: ★★★★

IN SHORT: Evergreen
