IF you enjoy the sounds of Fleetwood Mac and Emmy Lou Harris, chances are you’ll love The Stillsons’ debut album.
This talented Melbourne band’s songwriters are founders Justin Bernasconi, vocals, guitar, ukelele, harp and guitar, and Cat Canteri, drums and vocals, who were recently joined by The Waifs’ Ben Franz, pedal steel guitar, vocals and production.
Fans of good music can see the duo at Beechworth’s Tanswell’s Commercial Hotel on December 17 and 18.
A terrific ukelele opening on the toe-tappin’ John the Dogg was an immediate favourite as was the first single, Nobody Knows You Tonight, a mix of jazz scat singing and country rock, reveals the experiences of a drunken Kiwi backpacker.
Slower tracks Stillson, Nancy Jean and In Violence highlight Bernasconi and Canteri’s slick songwriting skills.
