Tiesto - Kaleidoscope (Musical Freedom)

TIESTO is arguably the biggest trance DJ in the world.

He’s Grammy-nominated and regularly plays to crowds that would make the world’s biggest rock acts jealous.

On his latest artist CD, Kaleidoscope, Tiesto has caused a bit of a fan backlash.

You see, many of the Dutch DJ’s fans aren’t too happy with collaborations with pop acts like Nelly Furtado, Calvin Harris and Tegan And Sara. Whatever.

He’s even done a track with Albury’s fave dance band Sneaky Sound System, I Will Be Here, which is decidely less commercial than their usual releases.

But it is a new, less edgy sound that Tiesto is exploring.

Escape Me, a pop-trance effort, is among the strong moments while the Furtado track Who Wants To Be Alone is also a solid, mid-tempo tune.

For classic Tiesto, however, look to his back catalogue.

RATING: ★★★

IN SHORT: gutsy
