Leading Angle Vale reinswoman Angela Cavallaro will head a group of South Australians in the battle against interstate rivals as part of the 2005 Reinswomen's Challenge at Globe Derby Park on Saturday, December 10.
Cavallaro is having one of her best years in the sulky, mainly due to the deeds of horses like Scenic Saga, Nukes Pride and Katy Too.
One of the highlights of her year was driving Reality Check to second place in a heat of the Vicbred 4YO mares at Moonee Valley. The pair were back a week later for the Group 1 $100,000 Final where they finished ninth to Safari Breeze.
Comet Soho, a trotter Cavallaro took out the Gramel Series with in 2004, has just returned to the racetrack from a long, injury-forced break. She is slowly working her way back to top form and should be notching up some more wins for Angela in the not-too-distant future.
Joining Cavallaro in representing SA will be reigning Challenge champion Danielle Hill, leading Kadina trainer-driver Leah Harvey, Dublin driver Katie Lobb and Gawler's Gina Bell.
Top interstate reinswomen Natalie Rasmussen (Qld), Natasha Day (Qld), Emma Turnbull (NSW) and Lisa Justice (Vic) along with Angela's cousin Tanya Cavallaro (Vic) will be flying the flag for their home states and all will be keen to take the title across the border.
The annual Reinswomen's Challenge is run as part of the on-course action during the 'Ladies' Night Out' on Saturday night, December 10. All ladies attending Globe Derby Park on the night will be admitted free, while the first 200 through the gates will receive a giveaway pack courtesy of Chemist Warehouse at Kilburn as well as competition vouchers and chocolates.
Other features of the night, run jointly by Harness Racing SA, the SA Harness Racing Club and the SA Reinswomen's Association, include a champagne and wine bar, spray-on tan demonstration and ‘Punters Club' plus all the exciting harness racing action.
Also, as a fundraising component, pink wristbands are being sold to raise money for Breast Cancer Network Australia as part of their Operation Pink Band which aims to sell one million pink bands for the benefit of breast cancer survivors around Australia.
