Bundanoon resident Josephine Challenor knows the risks of controversial hedge, the Leyland Cyprus, but says she has been able to keep it in check through frequent trimming.
"When we moved in the developers had just planted the hedge. Since then we have had to trim it every year just to stay on top of it," she said.
Ms Challenor, who has previously served as secretary of the Bundanoon Garden Club, said Wingecarribee Shire councillors were correct to have concerns about the hedge, which grows upwards of one metre per year.
"There are quite a number of Leyland Cyprus around the shire because they are used for windbreaks and to define people's holdings," she said.
