p THE ACT Northside Regional Championships will be held at Wright Park Queanbeyan on Saturday 2nd March and Sunday 3rd March. This free carnival is open for everyone to enter, and is a great opportunity to compete against athletes from other centres on our home ground. The Northside Championships is also the qualification event for ACT Championships which will be held at the AIS on 23rd and 24th March. We will start taking nominations for Northside tomorrow. There are limitations on the number of athletes each club can enter in an event, so get your nomination in early. A flyer providing more information, including the likely scheduling of events, and a nomination form will be distributed.
p QUEANBEYAN Little As will be holding a Trivia Night at the Queanbeyan Kangaroos Club on Saturday 16 February. Tickets are $10 a head, and includes provision of some nibbles on the table (cheese, dips and bickies, chips etc). There will be lots of fun and prizes. We are setting up tables of 10, but don’t worry if you can’t get a full table together, or want to come as an individual. We will arrange tables for you. So come along and have a fun night.
p AS advised in the last newsletter, we will be starting a roster system for helpers tomorrow Saturday February 2. The parent/carers of the athletes listed below have been selected for the first roster. Rostered helpers are asked to report to Ian Cameron at the announcing table between 8:30am and 8:50am. Duties will be allocated on a “first come - first choice” basis - so it will pay to be there early if you want to avoid certain duties. If you are unable to attend your rostered duty you are responsible for arranging a swap with another helper.
Roster for 2 February: Jessica Agius, Riley Ahern, Seamus Allen, Cydney Atkins, Alana Aunela, Emma Bacchetto, Taleena Baker, Christopher Baldwin, David Baldwin, Matthew Ball, Kristy-Lee Barlow, James Barnes, Alix Bateup, Lachlan Beavan, Holly Bell, Penny Bennett, Michael Bode, Susannah Bourke, Liam Bourke, Jessica Boutzos, Jennifer Bowden, Rebecca Bradley, Amelia Brewer, Erin Brighenti, Catherine Brims, Anika Buckley, Drew Buckley, Jessie Callan, Madeline Camilleri, Zane Campbell, Matthew Canham, Brent Cannon, Lauren Cappello, Leah Carden, Jone Carswell, Blake Carter, Rebecca Chalker, Nicola Chapman, Gregg Charnock, Joel Christou, Rebecca Clarke, Luke Clarke, Luke Cochrane.
p SATURDAY February 9 looks like it could be a big day for getting some expert tips for some of our specialised events. We are hoping to have some coaches from both the ACT Throwers Club and the ACT Race Walking Club come out to give athletes (and probably parents/officials) some tips on the events. To try to provide uninterrupted throws coaching sessions for under 12s to under 17s we will start the 1500m walk at 8.45am on that day. So any under 12s to under 17s who wish to do the walk on February 9 need to be present and complete their warm ups ready for an 8.45am start to their race. Other walk events will follow as soon as the 1500m walk is completed.
Just a reminder that our normal throws training is on Wednesday afternoons at 5.30pm.
