Darts trial to finetune match concept

28/11/2002 11:08:09 AM
Organisers of the Australian Outback Darts Championships will be running a trial of their new competition concept next month.

In order to finetune the match concept, which has not been tried in a major competition in Australia before, 21 local darts players will take part in an all-day trial event.

This will be a round robin event, with all players competing in 20 'best of three' games. It will verify the actual time required for the match, under competition conditions, with the associated pressures, rule compliances, scoring, and so on.

This trial event is being held on Saturday, December 14, from 10am at the bowling club, with $200 in prize money to be won.

The winner will also receive free entry to the actual Australian Outback Darts Championships, to be held at Lightning Ridge during the weekend from April 12 to 14.

We would like the public to come and watch the players in action on that day, to help create the big match atmosphere they will be exposed to next year.

We are expecting more than 500 visiting entrants next April, due to the popularity of Lightning Ridge and the large amount of prize money being offered.
