Virginia di Santis in first golf win

16/12/2004 12:11:37 PM
Blayney lady golfer Virginia di Santis recorded her first win in the summer competition played on Wednesday 8 December. Her nett 9 hole score was 39. It was a rather impressive debut as Virginia also won the nearest the pin prize, resulting from a fine tee shot on the par three second hole.

Margaret Smith won the 18 hole division with nett 70. Margaret is not only a fine golfer but a wonderful supporter of ladies golf in Blayney and rarely misses a competition.

Christmas draws ever closer with still lots to do in most cases. The summer competition will be held at the Blayney Golf Club on Wednesday 22 December. Depending what time is available to the individual both an 18 hole and a 9 hole division will be operative. What a great way to enjoy the company of good friends. There is to be an earlier start than usual on the 22nd wit hit off time at 8.30am. The ladies are invited to bring a plate along to assist with the Christmas celebrations. The competition on the day will be a par.

The summer competition will go into recess over Christmas and will resume on Wednesday 5 January 2005.

Any veterans interested in a game of golf on Monday 20 December are cordially invited to take part in the Blayney and District Mixed Veterans 18 hole event to be held on that day at the Blayney Golf Club. The hit off time is 9am.

Veterans Golf

At a meeting following golf last Monday the Blayney and District Mixed Golfers decided to lower the eligible age for participants. Beginning next Monday 20 December the minimum age for women will be forty-five, while the minimum age for men will be lowered from fifty-five to fifty.

The recently formed group is slowly gathering momentum and is looking forward to a successful 2005. Hopefully, lowering the age groups will result in encouraging more people along. Players in the 18 hole competition next Monday are cordially invited to stay after golf, and participate in a Christmas party.

Is there no stopping him. Bob Costello has done it again! Despite a continual review of his handicap, Bob just continues to knock the ball down the middle and sink putts with monotonous regularity. He won the 18 hole individual stableford competition played last Monday with 39 points. Bruce Burke was runner up with 37. Bruce defeated Ted Dell on a countback. The nearest the pin prize winners were Alan Love for the men and Sue Bevear for the ladies.

Participants in the Vets competition next Monday are requested to be at the Blayney Golf Club in readiness for a 9am hit off.

Junior Golf

Brock Gannon, who observers claim is moulding his impressive golfing skills very much like his Uncle Tony, rather than his own Dad, won the 9 hole stroke competition played at the Blayney Golf Club last Sunday. Brock's nett 9 hole score was 28.

T J Smith currently in spectacular form, was runner up with 31. It was so good to see one of the younger players, Alex Pettit take out third place with a nett score of 35. The coaches report is as follows. Brock Gannon had a solid game which included pars on holes number three and six. Mark McDonald played well. Aaron McDonald had a par on the second hole. William Good seldom strayed far from the fairway.

Players participating in the 9 hole competition this Sunday 19 December are requested to be at the Golf Club not later than 9.10am. Following an excellent year the junior golf squad will go into recess for four weeks and resume on Sunday 23 January 2005.
