What they did want was colour, animals, children and a sense of fun.

After extensive community consultation, two new sculptures were created for Weeramar Park featuring those elements.

Artists Velislav Georgiev and Victoria Roxborough produced pieces showing a child playing and a dingo doing a handstand.

Mr Georgiev said community members had a clear view of what they wanted.

"There was a strong tendancy towards animals and vegetation rather than anything abstract," he said.

"People wanted colours, happy things, animals and children."

He said the circles around the central figures represented the community cohesion.

"It's a sign of togetherness all around the world and much gentler than shapes like squares and other shapes with straight lines."

The public artworks are part of the beautification of Weeramar Park in Wendouree West that has also involved building a barbecue area and playground.
