Bomber’s truly a top dog

Bomber has done it again.

After winning the Australian Cattle Dog Trials last September in Taroom, Queensland, Bomber with best mate and owner Allan Fletcher won the New South Wales Cattle Dog Trial Championships at Casino last weekend.

"He's done it again," a very proud Mr Fletcher said. "He has pulled off the two big ones, first the Australian and now the New South Wales championship."

In the final of the Open trial, Bomber and Mr Fletcher posted a strong score of 96. In the second round of the final they scored 93, giving a total of 189.

The pair had come up against a tough Brahman heifer in the final but Mr Fletcher said once he beat her he was on his way to victory. However with Bomber running 13th of the 22 finalists, the pair had to wait over an hour until nine other dogs competed.

"I had to sit there for an hour hoping that nobody would come over the top of him," Mr Fletcher said.

The second last dog put in a good performance, finishing in second place a point behind Bomber and Mr Fletcher. "Winning the Australian championship made me very proud of the dog, I was over the moon, I didn't come down for a couple months I was so excited, but this time it has given me the satisfaction of knowing that this dog has backed it all up," Mr Fletcher said.

"I reckon he has now proven that he is up there with the best dogs in cattle dog trialing," he said.

The New South Wales Cattle Dog Trial Championships were held in Casino from June 9 and 10 with 102 entrants competing in the open section from as far away as Rockhampton in Queensland.

This success builds upon what is developing into a strong era for dog trialing in Glen Innes Mr Fletcher said.

"With this and also Ashley Whitehead's recent success it is good to see trialers in Glen Innes doing well, good to see us proving ourselves among top company," he said. GRANT BANKS
