THE Aberdeen Tigers scored their second successive victory over the competition leaders Singleton at McKinnon Field last Sunday.
The 28-24 win in a top quality match has kept Aberdeen in second position on the competition table, two points ahead of third placed Scone.
Singleton had a huge share of possession in the first 20 minutes of the game with Aberdeen only holding the ball for a handful of tackles.
The 12-0 advantage to Singleton could have been more except for the Tiger's determination in defence.
Aberdeen put their first points on the board in the 32nd minute when replacement forward Darryl Bowen made a break and sent winger Leigh Mitchell away for a try.
Winger Anthony Parker converted from the sideline in the windy conditions.
Three minutes later captain/coach Ben Hagan powered over for a try under the posts.
Anthony Parker again converted to level the scores at 12-12 leading into halftime.
The Tigers took the lead in the 46th minute for the first time in the match when Anthony Parker scored from a cross field chip kick.
The lead was short lived as Singleton took advantage of Aberdeen spilling the kickoff and were over for a try shortly after. The successful conversion from in front of the posts gave the Greyhounds an 18-16 lead.
Two minutes later the lead changed hands again when Anthony Parker scored after following a well weighted grubber kick from five eighth Shane Hasselmann.
In the 57th minute Shane Hasselmann scored a clever try from dummy half.
Anthony Parker added the extras to extend the margin to 26-18.
Singleton reduced the margin to 26-24 when they scored a converted try in the 68th minute.
Both teams then tried hard to crack the opposition defence with out success.
The Tigers were awarded a penalty near the posts with three minutes left on the clock.
Anthony Parker kicked the penalty goal to increase the lead to four points.
Inside the final minute Shane Hasselmann made a sizzling 50 metre run but could not find support.
The fulltime siren rang just after a Singleton scrum win.
The best players for Aberdeen in a huge team effort were Darryl Bowen, Shane Hasselmann, second rowers Dan Taylor and Mark Macauley, prop Ben Hagan, lock Mark Wilton and fullback Nathan Cantor.
In Reserve Grade Aberdeen's nine game winning streak came to an end when they lost by 32-22 to Singleton.
The best players for the Tigers were fullback Sean Millwood, prop Tom Hagan, lock Eddie Gardner, five eighth Josh Bell, halfback Shannon Miller and replacement forward Terry O'Brien.
In the Under 18s match Singleton defeated Aberdeen by 38-0 after leading 10-0 at halftime.
Aberdeen's best players were second rowers Daniel Bianco and Luke Foley, prop Brock Wright, hooker Daniel Hoogerwerf and centre Andrew Nicholls.
This Saturday in Round 14 action Aberdeen will travel to Denman to take on the Red Devils at 6pm.
The Reserve Grade team are to play Merriwa at the Merriwa Sportsground on Saturday at 12pm. The Under 18's have the bye this weekend.
