Lions missing key four

5/01/2001 1:00:00 AM
Ladder leading LAUNCESTON takes on a rejuvenated RIVERSIDE outfit at Hyundai Park in a repeat of last year's grand final.

The Blues will welcome the return of young quick Paul Bunton, who has missed a few matches with a buttock injury and will be hoping he can get some results from their unpredictable pitch.

Sitting third on the ladder, Riverside has been helped with some solid performances by Nathan Balym of late, while Andy Belsak remains second on the ISCU player of the year ladder.

After a superb start to the season that included good wins without a full strength side, the Lions will face their toughest challenge yet with four key players out of their line-up.

Coach Jade Selby is in Brisbane with the under-17 state side, Chris Bassano is struggling with an ankle injury, and Nick Glover and Xavier Doherty have other commitments - giving second grade players a chance to show their form.

In second spot on the batting averages, Shane McDermott will again be looking to fire while Heath Griggs, in second spot on the bowling averages, will be after some more wickets.

After a win each in the last round of competition, it will be a good battle between MOWBRAY and WESTBURY at Invermay Park.

Being second on the ladder, the Eagles will be looking to add another win to their list on the way to the business end of the season.

Coach Andy Gower is sitting on top of the ISCU player of the year award but is more concerned about the premiership than his personal victories.

With only spinner Sean Stevenson missing from the Westbury attack with state under-17 commitments, Westbury is looking the most balanced it has been in a while.

With batting potential down to number nine and four good bowlers for Westbury, the Eagles will need to find a solid batting partnership early on to avoid disappointment.
