Knight takes weekly WCC honours

16/01/2006 1:00:00 AM
Knight helped the Loyola Marymount University Lions start conference play 2-0 for the first time since 1989-90.

Knight, who is seventh in the WCC in scoring with 16.0 points per game and first with 9.3 rebounds per game, shared the weekly honour with Gonzaga's Adam Morrison.

Knight is the first Lion to earn player of the week honours during conference play since 2002-03.

It was quite the week for the AIS graduate, scoring 22 points in each of the wins over San Diego and San Francisco. He went 10-for-13 from the field in the 86-84 win over San Diego and then went 11-for-15 in the double overtime victory of San Francisco. Over the two games, he finished hitting 21-for-28 from the field, good for 75 per cent.

He also added 24 rebounds in the two games, going for a double-double against USF with 15 boards. He added nine against San Diego. Of the 24 rebounds, Knight had 12 offensive rebounds as he earned 20 of his points on second chance opportunities. The double-double on Monday was Knight's seventh of the season and ninth of his career. The seven in one season is the most since 1998-99 by one player and the nine in his career is tied for 15th all-time at LMU.

To complete the two game sweep, the forward added eight steals, including a career-high five against USF. He also had four assists and two blocks.

Knight is back in action today as LMU travels to Portland.
