Daniel Hughes is at unbackable odds to take out the Dubbo Cricketer of the Year trophy at tomorrow night's association presentation dinner.
The CYMS fast bowler has had a tremendous season capped off by earning selection for New South Wales Country at the Australian championships.
Hughes went to Warrnambool in Victoria as one of the carnival rookies and returned home with the Bill O'Reilly Trophy for taking the most number of wickets.
He also played a leading role with the new ball for Western Zone in its NRMA Cup limited overs win over Newcastle and also bowled well for Dubbo and Macquarie Valley sides.
While his club side CYMS missed out on the Whitney Cup finals, he was rarely off the spot and is undoubtedly one of the best bowlers Dubbo cricket has had for a number of years.
Last weekend he was named cricketer of the year for CYMS.
Other nominations for the major Dubbo award are Colts' all-rounder Matt Ryan, Macquarie master blaster Jason Green -who tore the Newcastle attack to shreds in the NRMA Cup final - and Will Lindsay, who had a magnificent season in representative and club cricket, but importantly for Newtown's Whitney Cup premiership side.
Tomorrow night's dinner will be held at the Dubbo RSL Club starting at 6.30pm. The RSL club has proven to be magnificent sponsors of Dubbo cricket this season and is likely to be represented for the first time by its newly-elected president John Millar.
One of the biggest club representations is expected from Newtown who carried off their first ever Whitney Cup first grade premiership and also won the Pinnington Cup in second grade.
Kelly Cup third grade premiers Rugby will also be represented.
Two of the other major trophies on the dinner program are the Dubbo RSL rookie of the year and the best performed under-16 player in Whitney Cup cricket.
Candidates for rookie of the year are Greg Ford, the Macquarie leg spinner; tall fast bowler Adam Hughes (CYMS), and Chris Morton, the young Colts' batsman.
The under-16 award will be fought out between Ryan Drew, the Newtown batsman; Lloyd Shepherd, who batted and kept wickets for Colts; and Macquarie off spinner and batsman Ricky Medway.
The dinner will also see an auction for several valuable items including a bar mat that features the 1948 undefeated tour of England by the Australian team dubbed The Invincibles.
There is also a large framed print of the Australia and West Indies sides that played in the Benson and Hedges series in 1984 to 85.
Teams from Australia, New Zealand and England feature in an international souvenir team photograph from the 1982-83 series.
All three items have been signed by the players and should attract a lot of attention.
