 Swan song for failed fishers

Swan song for failed fishers

15/10/2006 1:00:00 AM
Next weekend, we fish the second qualifying round, and by combining the two rounds, the top 10 get to fish the final on the Swan River.

So we are part way there.

Three teams weighed in the maximum of 10 fish a team as can be seen below 10-10.

The total weight of all fish is shown as well.

However, only two teams are shown as 10-10 as the team that weighed in second heaviest was disqualified for having more than 10 fish in the livewell.

It was the first tournament and they have not read the rules properly.

A big and costly oversight, but one they took with great sportsmanship.

Our two fish were the top weight for two fish at 2.854kg, and these ranged down to a two-fish bag of 1.619kg.

It is quite a difference. All fishing must be done with artificial lures/soft plastics/fly.

Both our fish were caught on 4cm Strike Pro suspending lures in colour 011.

Most fish were caught on soft plastics, though.

A further report in a couple of weeks.

¤¤¤ TIDES are not important for trout anglers, but essential for marine fishers.

No run, no fun is an often-quoted expression and a running tide congregates fish which makes targeting them more easy.

Tidal information is also essential when launching and retrieving on difficult ramps.

There are many of these in Tasmania that just run out of water at low tide.

They are a pain and if you have a tide table book you can avoid all that.

Last year, there was no booklet, mostly due to the four Tasmanian Ports combining into one.

The ports had produced them previously, but not last year.

They are now available again and cover the period from October to September 2007 inclusive.

You will find them at marine chandleries.

14/11/2008 | There isn't any doubt any more about whether Deputy PM, Julia Gillard, has the killer instinct. The problem tends more to be how to drag her off the victim's body.
