Weekend sure to highlight town’s artistic talents, culture

Even though she has moved to Dunedoo, Sara Fergusson still loves Wellington. And as the president of the Percy Street Harvest Festival committee, she is looking forward to showcasing the town at this weekend’s event.

Marking the second annual celebration of people, produce and passion will be what Sara describes as a ‘trio of events.’

Firstly, an art exhibition titled Places and Faces @ the races will be opened at the Percy Street Gallery by Raylee Hart, the widow of esteemed Australian artist Pro Hart.

Then there is the Taste of Wellington spring lunch at the Cactus, coinciding with the café and gallery’s 10th birthday celebrations.

In the evening, the popular Starlight Cinema will screen a selection from renowned film festival Flickerfest. MC for the night will be Dugald Saunders.

During the rest of the weekend, there will be wine and olive sampling at the Lion of Waterloo and stalls, stalls and more stalls at the Harvest Markets on Sunday.

“We have about two dozen stallholders,” Sara said.

“But there are still some spots available.”

Wellington Council and local businesses have shown an enormous amount of support for the annual event, now in its second year.

Now all that remains is for the crowds to fill Percy St with community spirit.
