$150,000 ecstasy seized

Glen Innes Police seized more than $150,000 worth of illegal drugs from a vehicle travelling through town on Friday.

A red Nissan motor vehicle was stopped on the New England Highway at about 2.30am for a random breath test and after speaking with the male driver and female passenger the vehicle was searched. As a result about 5,000 ecstasy (MDMA) tablets were found along with amounts of methylamphetamine (speed) and cannabis.

The drugs have an estimated value of more than $150,000 and police also seized an amount of cash.

The vehicle was also seized by Police and conveyed to Glen Innes Police Station where further searches were conducted.

A 30 year old man and 19 year old woman, both from Plumpton in western Sydney were taken to Glen Innes Police Station as a result and were subsequently charged with a number of serious drug offences.

The offendants appeared in Inverell Local Court on Friday afternoon where no pleas were entered and they chose not to apply for bail. They will appear in the same court tomorrow in regard to the matter.
