TWO Border women suffered serious facial injuries after a glassing at a Dean Street nightclub early yesterday.
A Wodonga woman, 19, was taken to Albury Base Hospital with a deep laceration to her cheek and a blood nose after a man allegedly struck her in the face with a glass about 1.30am.
The other woman, 19, of Albury, suffered a cut lip and bruising to both cheeks in the incident.
Insp John Wadsworth, of Albury police, said the events that led to the assaults were unclear but closed circuit television footage was expected to help police better understand what happened.
“There was an argument of some sort which turned physical,” he said.
“We know there were some punches and one of the women was pushed to the floor.
“The man has then allegedly hit one of the women in the face with a glass.
“The fellow has then left the venue but was held prior to leaving by security. They obtained some of his details and we’re following up on some strong leads.”
Insp Wadsworth said this sort of behaviour would “never ever” be excused.
“The consequences of an artery being cut by a broken glass, plus the other horrific injuries that can occur, are very serious,” he said.
“People can do jail time over that sort of behaviour.”
He urged people to help prevent these sorts of assaults from occurring by remaining alert.
“If you see someone being quite violent while you’re out, you should approach bar staff or security,” he said.
“We don’t want these sorts of people in licensed venues, we want people to have fun and enjoy themselves. Take care of one another.”
Insp Wadsworth applauded the security staff for their quick thinking.
Police urged anyone with information on the incident to phone Albury police station on (02) 6023 9299.
