 A healthy outlook for Hayley

A healthy outlook for Hayley

26 Nov, 2008 12:00 AM
A TYPICAL day for Hayley Carmichael could see her trapping mozzies, visiting a hairdressers or overseeing immunisations for children.

But being the Wodonga Council environmental health officer is no typical job.

She was recently awarded the TGO Jordan Memorial Award for Excellence for the student with the highest academic results in the final year of the Bachelor of Health Science at Swinburne University.

The unassuming 24-year-old says it is no big deal but her boss disagrees.

Council’s health and civic services manager Mark Verbaken said councils across Victoria were desperately short of skilled professionals in environmental health, surveying and town planning.

“These people are in short supply so to get someone of Hayley’s quality and skill is a real bonus,” he said.

Ms Carmichael is living in Thurgoona.
