6/10/2008 10:49:00 AM
A Canberra P-plater who ran into two parked cars early today, causing significant damage, has allegedly blown eight times the legal alcohol limit.

ACT Policing report the 23-year-old allegedly blew 0.162 after the parked car incident, about 2am.

The man was driving a Holden station wagon in Canberra's central north when he allegedly collided with the two parked vehicles.

He will be summonsed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on drink driving charges and traffic charges.

Typical of damned P plate drivers these days! See a car coming up behind you, weaving in and out of traffic....usually has a P plate, going through red lights, speeding...usually has a P plate. Wake up P plate drivers, you are still learning to drive! Think about other road users!!!!

Glad you agree Baldy. Look, anyone can sit behind a steering wheel and put the accelerator flat to the floor. It's knowing what to do if a tyre deflates, a car comes out of a side street or god help a child jumps out in front! P PLATERS WAKE UP!! You don't own the road, there are other road users out there who shouldn't become a statistic because of your stupidity!

Maybe the government should raise the age limit for getting a license to 21 years old. Most 21 year olds are much more sensible then 18 or 19 year olds, as all the current laws for driving for L-platers and p-platers do not seem to be working.

Does " he will be summonsed to appear' indicate that the police let this driver go!!!! Surely we don't need to wait until he manages to include a couple of pedestrians, or a little old lady, before taking him out of circulation for a while.

Perhaps all you know it alls should think about when you had your P's. The cars have become safer since then, the roads have become since then, the driving test to get you P's has become harder since then. I see a lot of bad drivers on the road each day and usually they are either older, different nationality, or a combination of the both. I know of and have seen losts of P plate drivers who are much better drivers than them.

The Government does nothing but ban P platers from this, restrict them from that etc etc etc. Why doesnt anyone actually "teach" P platers? Without getting too political, the Australian Motorist Party wants driver education to start in year 7. I personally cant see a down side to that and by the time oour kids hit the streets they just may actually understand that having a license is a priveledge, not a right!
