Albury bin bugs warned

07 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM
ALBURY emergency services have called on those lighting bin fires to stop before businesses are damaged.

Fire crews were called to an industrial bin on fire near the Lavington Aldi loading dock at 2.20am yesterday.

Albury brigade station officer Alex Marschall said it appeared the fire had been deliberately lit.

“These kind if fires can be quite devastating to the community,” he said.

Mr Marschall said it was lucky the building’s sprinkler system activated and suppressed the blaze until crews arrived.

He said it was the second bin fire near the Griffith Road store in less than three months.

The supermarket will be asked to move the bin to a different location in a bid to stop the culprits.

Acting Insp Mark Watson, of Albury police, said every deliberately lit fire was a serious matter.

“If you cause malicious damage by fire you’re looking at up to 12 months imprisonment,” he said.

It gets a tad annoying getting up at 05.30AM every Bin Day ~ to put the Rubbish Bins out ~ especially when you have "Feral / Undisciplined / Destructive" Kids/Pre-Teens living in your Unit Complex ~ not including those that wander the Streets at night ~ looking for some "Vandalising FUN"...!!!
