Albury trots bomb threat

11 Feb, 2012 11:01 PM
RACEGOERS were evacuated at a trots meeting at Albury Showground last night after a bomb threat.

Albury police cleared the main grandstand and betting area after receiving the threat in a phone call about 8.30pm.

Police, in consultation with the Sydney Bomb Squad, conducted a grid search of the area before declaring it safe.

There was no evidence of a bomb.

Racegoers were allowed to re-enter the evacuated areas and the delayed trots meeting was completed.

Investigations into the phone call are underway.

Insp. John Wadsworth, of Albury police, praised racegoers and trots organisers.

"I can't speak highly enough of the common-sense attitude of patrons," Insp. Wadsworth said.

"I'd also like to thank the Albury Harness Racing Club and race-caller for their assistance in dealing with this unfortunate event.

"We are investigating the source of the threat."
