KENNELS have been cleared out and replaced with coffee tables, seats and a computer at the newly refurbished Albury RSPCA centre.
The animal welfare organisation will reopen the doors on its site this morning, a year after it shut due to economic circumstances.
Albury RSPCA centre co-ordinator and treasurer Graham Fuller said using the Hume Street centre to sell merchandise had proven unviable, with rival stores undercutting the charity and the availability of its goods on the internet.
It is now an information centre for pet owners.
“People can come in and have a tea or coffee for a gold coin donation and we can provide them with literature and any information they need to know,” Mr Fuller said.
A foster dog program operating from the centre, will match families with dogs and, if needed, other animals.
“It’s better for the animal to be in a home environment rather than a shelter, and it is good for families, too,” he said.
“We provide foster families with dog food, vet checks, bedding, we ask only for their time.”
A sausage sizzle and foster dog meet-and-greet will mark the reopening today from 10am to 2pm at the centre.
