Jakovac has held an annual exhibition in her East Albury studio for five years.

“It’s a way to show people what I have been up to without having to book an art space,” she said.

Among the works on display will be paintings on glass and many landscapes but the Mitchell painting Jakovac plans to enter in the Archibald Prize will be held in secrecy until finished.

Jakovac met the former Border singer and her parents when they bought some artwork from her studio last year.

“I knew I wanted to paint her; she has an interesting look,” she said.

The opportunity arose when Mitchell came to Albury for a concert a few months ago.

“She was very honoured and happy to be part of it,” Jakovac said.

She plans to have the painting finished in February for submission in the Archibald Prize.

However, art enthusiasts can view her many more of her latest creations.

Intrigued by the aftermath of the bushfires around Falls Creek in 2006, Jakovac has painted snow gums that turned a silver colour from the ash.

“All the ash turned the snow gum trees silver; it was stunning to look at,” she said.

Jakovac’s Border exhibition will be held this weekend from 10am to 6pm at the Lubek Art Exhibition at 329 Wirraway Street, Albury.

Her studio will also be open on Saturday and Sunday, November 28 and 29.
