Armed men seen stalking Glenroy house

01 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
A GROUP of men armed with weapons was allegedly seen running towards the house where a Wodonga man was shot yesterday.

A neighbour said he was woken by his partner about 12.40am to hear people yelling and screaming in the street.

He said they were running poles or bats along his fence as they made their way towards the house where the shooting occurred.

The group comprised all men and at least four of them were carrying weapons, he said.

“There were about five to eight people and once they got towards the house, they started running, coming from the left, right and straight at the house,” the man, who wants to remain anonymous, said.

“Once they were in the front yard, that’s when the big bang went off.

“I kept on watching them and they went in both directions of Kurnell Street.

“Also, as the shot happened, I noticed a Commodore took off pretty quick and then stopped about 50 metres up the road where a couple of people got into the car and it took off again.”

The resident thought the sedan then returned, pulled into the driveway of the house and left again before the police and ambulance arrived.

He said most of the people had scattered by that time.

When the group was walking past his house, the resident said he heard someone say they were going to “smash his car up”.

When they were about 50 metres from the home, they began yelling and screaming.

“Once the shot went off, I heard a female screaming,” he said.

The man thought there were already a few people in the front yard of the home before the second group arrived.

He said he had lived in the area for about four years and hadn’t had any major trouble before yesterday.
