Billy a new star in model family

THE parents of Make Me A Supermodel contestant Billy Bishop say their son was never destined to have a nine-to-five job.

The Victoria Point 20-year-old is the third generation of his family to pursue modelling.

Grandmother Nola Jefferys modelled in the 1950s, mother Gale worked as a stylist and model, and father Michael modelled for 20 years before starting a cordial business.

According to Michael, not one person in Billy's extended family holds what could be considered a "proper job".

His uncles, aunts and cousins include sculptors, professional musicians, an actor, Cirque du Soleil clown, and even a protester-cum-filmmaker.

"When your kids say 'I want to be a model you can't say go get a real job because everyone on both sides of our family earn livings doing what they love," Michael said.

Gale added: "We would be pretty surprised if we turned out a maths teacher."

It was through Gale and Michael's careers that Billy got his first taste of modelling.

As a child, he often appeared alongside his parents, brother and sometimes grandmother in commercials requiring families.

While brother Aiden gave up modelling when he got older, Billy pursued it and is now one of the top seven models on the Channel 7 reality show.

Michael flew down to Sydney to film a segment for last Thursday's show and said Billy was loving his time in the house.

But he said Billy had not seen the show and had no idea he was being portrayed as a "bad boy".

"We know what he's really like, he's a little bit naughty, but he's really a lovely kid," Michael said.

Gale felt the producers were taking advantage of Billy's good nature by setting him up to look bad and feared it could cost him his place on the publicly-voted show.

Billy can be seen on Make Me A Supermodel on Channel 7 on Thursday at 7.30pm.

If Billy survives this week's vote but lands in the bottom three again on Thursday, you have until 8am on Friday to vote for him either by texting Billy to 191 777 or by calling the phone number listed at the end of the show.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
