POLICE found a stash of foil-wrapped cannabis when they stopped at a Howlong residence earlier this month to check on the owner of an unfamiliar car.
They knew the occupants of a Pell Street residence and did not recognise a vehicle parked out front on September 6.
Officers spoke to Wahgunyah man Sam Petrie, who admitted having drugs in his possession, which led to a search of his vehicle.
Three foil wraps were taken from a sports bag and another 12 foil wraps and $170 cash were discovered.
The total weight of cannabis leaf recovered was 22.5 grams, with most packed in one-gram to 1.3-gram lots.
One package weighed 3.2 grams.
Petrie, 19, of Victoria Street, pleaded guilty in Albury Local Court yesterday to supplying a prohibited drug and dealing with the proceeds of crime.
Solicitor Paul Robb conceded that Petrie was going to supply three or four of the small foils to friends.
Mr Robb said Petrie had no previous drug offences, but was a cannabis user at the time.
He had obtained a quantity of cannabis for his own use and the benefit of some friends.
Since his arrest and charging, Petrie has been attending drug counselling in Corowa.
Mr Robb said Petrie intends continuing with the counselling and has abstained from cannabis since being apprehended.
Magistrate Tony Murray was told Petrie got out of his vehicle when police stopped behind him and activated their lights.
He seemed nervous, was shaking and evasive, and admitted to having drugs on him when asked.
Mr Murray said he took into consideration the small amount of cannabis found and put Petrie on a 12-month bond for supplying drugs, as well as fining him $400.
Petrie was ordered to attend drug and alcohol rehabilitation as a condition of the bond.
He was fined $200 on the other charge and Mr Murray ordered the $170 cash found with the drugs to be forfeited.
