Bradies the Good Homemakers has joined with business from across Tenterfield and the surrounding areas in the effort to help namesake Brady Thrift in his recovery from leukaemia.
Bradies along with dozens of business from across the Shire and further afield, contributing a leather recliner towards items available in this weekend's auction at the Tenterfield Tavern to support Brady and Thrift family in their fight against cancer.
Graham Braid, Bradies owner, said "We're doing this to support the Thrifts, a family that has been in this town for years.
"It's not only financial support but moral support too. That's what it is all about."
A range of items donated or contributed from business, schools and organisation in Tenterfield and beyond will be available for purchase under the hammer at the Tenterfield Tavern on Saturday, November 22, and cater for people on all budgets.
Barbecue and bistro meals will be available while three bands play live music throughout the day. The kids room is on hand with video games and toys, and mechanical bull and sumo suits will be set up to entertain adults and children.
A Gold Coast Titans jersey raffle will be drawn on the night of the auction. Tickets are still available for this raffle and raffles for an air balloon ride and another for a bike donated by Mason's Convenience Store, who have also been storing the donated items which will be sold at the auction.
Events, including a 'celebrity' head shave, kick off at 3.30pm with the auction beginning at 7.30pm on the Tavern back deck.
Shaun Bird, one of the auction organisers, said that bad weather would not affect the day's schedule.
"If the weather doesn't clear up before Saturday, we'll move inside. It's on; rain, hail or shine," he said.
"John Thrift, Brady's dad, will be there so come have a beer with him and wish Brady the best. Bring your hearts and your wallets to help support the Thrift family and have a top day."
A full list of auction items is available at the Tenterfield Tavern, or at the Tenterfield Star office. Some of the bigger items include a signed and framed Sydney Roosters jersey, a weekend for two at the Byron at Byron resort, a weekend for family of four at the Angourie Rainforest Resort, a weekend in a three-bedroom apartment at the Sleeping Inn on the Gold Coast, a family voucher for Australia Zoo, and the leather recliner from Bradies the Good Homemakers.
"We're still accepting cash and item donations, so if you've got something bring it along on the day," Mr Bird said.
"The full list of auction items is available from the pub, come pick one up and have a look at what is on offer or if you can't make it on the day send someone along to make a bid on your behalf."
