Bryce back home after defying odds

30/09/2008 9:58:00 AM
Eight year old Bryce Burey has made a remarkable recovery to return home after only six days in Sydney’s Westmead Children’s Hospital following his fall from a three metre high roof last Saturday.

Bryce had been retrieving a ball from the garage roof of his grandparents’ house when he stepped backwards into a skylight falling on his head.

He suffered a fractured skull, forehead and eye socket as well as bruising on the brain and had been on life support for two days following the incident but was quick to improve.

“We got home with him on Saturday night. He really astounded the neurologists at how fast he improved, he went from a life and death situation last Saturday to being discharged six days later,” Bryce’s mother Jody said.

“He still needs to be careful for the next six months and have check ups and needs to be particularly cautious with his head for the next six to eight weeks.”

Bryce received treatment from Glen Innes doctors Peter Annetts and Edward Or before being transferred and Mrs Burey said they did an outstanding job.

“The people in Sydney praised them to no end as to what they were able to do with the limited resources they had here.”
