The issue surrounding the re-naming of the road was put to the Mid Murray Council at the meeting on Monday, along with a petition from residents.
Petition organiser and Cambrai resident for more than 34 years Eileen Pugh said she did not want to see the road named Tuckwell Road.
“Mr Tuckwell should not be honoured, he is a convicted pedophile,” she said.
“He deserves no recognition.
“The road will one day become a major thoroughfare as more people divide up farms and further development in the area occurs.”
The dirt road, which links Cambrai and Sanderston, was to be named after community leader, church elder and former mayoral candidate Ronald Louis Tuckwell.
Mr Tuckwell, 68, is serving 10 years of imprisonment after pleading guilty to five counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and four counts of indecent assault.
Councillor Bormann moved the recommendation that the re-naming of the road to Moody Road be put for public consultation.
