Cars wrecked in bridge collision

15 Oct, 2009 01:00 AM
TWO cars were involved in a collision on Albury’s Borella Road bridge yesterday.

The crash was witnessed by the shocked mother of one the car’s owners.

But it was not the Yackandandah mum’s daughter in the car but the daughter’s boyfriend, who had borrowed it.

The teacher, 24, who did not wished to be named, had been driving east across the bridge when he collided with a car that had attempted to turn north onto the freeway.

Both cars were so badly damaged they had to be towed away.

The accident happened soon after 1pm and traffic was diverted around scene for about 2? hours.

The teacher was shaken but uninjured but an ambulance was called for the three women in the other car, who were taken to hospital for observation.

Police said there had been no serious injuries.

It was one of several prangs yesterday.

It was the second scare for the Yackandandah mum, who had earlier received a phone call from another daughter inquiring about insurance after she had driven her car into a creek.

Meanwhile, a man, 24, is in hospital after crashing into a tree on Thurgoona Drive, Lavington about 12.30pm yesterday.

The man was freed from the wreckage and taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police said the man was helping them with their inquiries into an incident minutes earlier that ended in a woman, 19, being stabbed in the hand at a home in Kemp Street, Lavington.
