Chopper for crash victim

Bega police were called to a single motorbike crash on Friday, November 7 at Brogo.

A 42-year-old male driver from Nowra had been travelling south along the Princes High-way with other riders when he failed to take a right-hand bend.

The motorbike skidded for approximately 63 metres before hitting the guard rail and crashing back on to the highway, flinging the rider over the top of the bike, over the rail and down an embankment.

The other riders provided assistance to the man until emergency services, including the VRA, arri-ved.

He was treated at the scene by ambulance officers for over an hour and later flown to Canberra Hospital by Southcare helicopter.

The rider suffered broken legs and ribs, chest injuries and severe lacerations. The highway was blocked for sometime

to allow the helicopter access.

Bega Police attended a single vehicle crash on Sunday, November 9 at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Finucane Lane, Bega.

The vehicle was observed driving in an erratic manner a short time before the accident by an off duty police officer.

The 37-year-old female driver from Bega lost control of the vehicle as

she approached Finucane Lane coming to rest on the incorrect side of the road after skidding across both lanes out of control.

Police attended the location and the driver was breath tested with a negative result.

She was issued with a number of infringement notices and the vehicle required towing from the scene.

Investigations are continuing into three separate thefts from motor vehicles last Friday night, which were parked in Belmore Street and Tathra Road, Bega.

Property stolen from the utes included one Hus-qvarna chainsaw, one pole top rescue box containing rigging harness, rope, gloves and knife.

Also stolen were three fishing rods, four distress flares and a big green duffel bag containing rigging belt and tools.

At about 3.11am on Saturday, November 8, highway patrol police were travelling on the Princes Highway, Bega when they noticed a vehicle at the closed Caltex Service Station at south Bega.

A male in dark clothing was observed standing at the passenger front door of this vehicle.

Police established this vehicle belonged to the driver’s mother and it was unregistered and uninsured.

Police searched the vehicle and located 1.3g of dried cannabis in a bowl and 2.9g of cannabis head.

The 48-year-old male driver from Canberra was issued with a field court attendance notice to appear at Bega Local Court for the offences of possess prohibited drug, use unregistered veh-

icle and use uninsured vehicle.
