Council loses million dollars

GOULBURN Mulwaree Council appears to have lost the entire value of a million dollar investment lodged with the Commonwealth Banking Co.

Council's general manager Luke Johnson confirmed yesterday Council had a visit on Friday from a Commonwealth Bank representative who "expressed concern about one of our investments".

Mr Johnson said the Investment was a triple-A rated CDO (Collateralised Debt Obligation) to the value of $1 million.

"The banker came and saw us and was pretty sure the amount would be lost, although nothing was confirmed.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
