Dangling a carrot for locals

ORANGE’S Food Week committee has decided with the novel ‘100-mile diet’ theme for next year’s food festival.

FOOD Week will be held from April 17 - 26 next year.

The concept of the theme was originally kicked off by a couple in Canada who decided they would only consume foods grown within a 100-mile radius of their home.

The idea has struck a chord with foodies around the world with many people trying it for themselves.

“Imagine if we could get the whole of Orange to give this ago,” said FOOD Week committee member Sophie Hansen.

Mrs Hansen said the FOOD committee will encourage people to eat only local foods during the time the food festival celebrations are held.

Next year’s program will feature a catalogue of all the ‘eligible’ produce registered.

“We will be running all kinds of support events to get us through it,” said Mrs Hansen.

“In particularly there will be cooking classes by local chefs, without sugar!”

FOOD committee member Willa McDuie has been delegated the task of sourcing as many producers as possible to include in the catalogue.

“We already have a pretty good idea of who is producing but we want to make sure we have everyone and no-one has slipped through the net,” she said.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
