Fashions to the fore on ladies day

05 Nov, 2009 01:00 AM
RECORD entrants are set to vie for fashion glory at Albury racecourse today.

The Myer Fashions on the Field at Albury Racing Club’s Oaks Day returns for its second year and this year introduces a new category — Miss Modern Race Goer.

“We get these amazing creations with the fascinators and exquisite fabrics, but really not what you would call classic racewear so this category rewards those beautiful outfits,” fashions on the field co-ordinator Louise Harper said.

The event will also see the return of the three original categories — most elegant lady, best hat and best fascinator — and Ms Harper said prebooked entrants were at record levels.

As for tips, Ms Harper said less is more this year for fashionistas.

“This year’s carnival is all about small decorated headbands and flighty cocktail hats rather than oversized pieces,” she said.

“It would appear that the less is more look, teaming pillbox style hats with netting and simple classic dresses and pant suits, will be the fashion trends making statements across racing carnivals this season.

“Feathers and flowers have been replaced by bows and gemstones and for colours, hot at the moment are bright pinks, blues and, of course, always the elegant creams, whites and blacks.

“Remember to keep it co-ordinated and suitable for the day.”

Fashions on the field will start at 3pm sharp under the elm trees adjacent to the deck bar.

Entrants are asked to assemble from 2.45pm at the staging area, behind the grandstand.

The seven-race program kicks off with the first at 1.12pm.
