Fence torched twice in one week

Fence torched twice in one week

6/10/2008 10:42:00 AM
A Dubbo resident has issued a timely warning about vandals after the front fence of her West Dubbo home was torched twice in the space of five days.

The resident, who doesn’t wish to be named due to fears of recrimination, said she noticed holes had been burned in the fence as she left for work on Thursday morning.

The attack followed a prior incident just days earlier where the corner of the fence had been set alight.

Fed up with being the target of such reckless vandalism, she has gone to the police and also gone public in a plea to prevent any further attacks.

“I work hard for what I’ve got and it’s not right that people just damage things like this,” she said.

“The first one I put up with and was going to patch it up but the second one pushed things too far.

“I got up to go to work on Thursday morning about 5am and noticed the holes.

“I live by myself and when things like this happen it makes you fear for your safety a bit.”

The fence burning incident occurred on the same evening that vandals smashed the front window of Robo’s Computers in Macquarie Street.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage is being examined to try and help find the culprits of the window smashing however it is believed footage from a nearby shop in West Dubbo cannot pinpoint the people that burned the fence in West Dubbo.

“The camera wasn’t angled the right way to notice anybody around,” the unnamed resident said.

“This is the second bit of trouble I have had since I moved to West Dubbo a couple of years ago.

“My back security door was broken off a couple of years ago and thrown into the yard next door and now this. It makes you wonder about where you live.

“The question I have is what people are doing with their children and whether they know where they are late at night.

“This happened between 10pm and 5am and my suspicion is it was kids that did it. People should be more aware of what their children are doing.”
