Film director helps Chapel cinema

Renowned director Peter Duncan came to Glen Innes in 1997 to film ‘A Little Bit of Soul’ and will return this weekend for a special presentation of his latest film ‘Unfinished Sky’.

His connection to Glen Innes was established through a friendship with Rob and Annabel Dulhunty and put a number of local residents on the big screen.

‘Unfinished Sky’ will screen on Saturday night at 7pm as a fundraiser for the Chapel Cinema. Mrs Dulhunty has coordinated the evening and said it will be a rare chance for residents to meet and speak with such an acclaimed director.

“It is great to welcome back Peter after having ‘Little Bit of Soul’ filmed here. It is fantastic to have such a great Aussie film and Aussie director come to town. It gives the public a chance to speak with a director that they rarely could otherwise,” she said.

It will be the first time Mr Duncan has returned to Glen Innes since the screening of ‘A Little Bit of Soul’ and said he is looking forward to returning and hearing the thoughts of the audience on his latest film.

“I haven’t been back since the last screening but I do feel a connection to Glen Innes, it feels a bit like another home to me,” he said.

“I have had a lot of chances to talk to audiences about ‘Unfinished Sky’ with screenings at film festivals around the world and in Australia but there is always a different response. How it is viewed in Korea can be very different to somewhere like Toronto.”

The movie features performances from William McInnes and Monic Hendrickx and tells the story of a Queensland sheep farmer who has his self-imposed isolation broken by the arrival of a bruised and battered woman who speaks no English. It has received much acclaim since its release in June and was last week nominated for eight Inside Film (IF) awards. David Stratton on ABC TV’s At the Movies rated the film four stars.

Tickets are available for purchase at Carelles Young World for $20 which includes the film viewing, Q and A with Peter Duncan and light refreshments.
