A TEENAGER’S family will pay clean-up costs after Albury Council was forced to call in staff to remove the mess left by party revellers at Lavington’s Mirambeena Community Centre.
Rubbish was strewn across the interior and surrounds of the centre and there was also minor damage to the building which had been hired out for an 18th birthday party on Saturday night.
Albury Council team leader for community development Maralee Vogel said the city would seek to recoup costs from the hirer after calling in its own staff to clean for two hours on Sunday and assigning commercial cleaners to complete the job yesterday.

She said a 60th birthday party on Sunday was delayed and the hire costs were reduced because of the inconvenience caused by the teenage celebration leaving “filthy premises”.
Ms Vogel said a bond of $600 was lodged for Saturday night’s party and the venue was required to be cleaned by the hirers.
“I think the old people left at midnight and the young people were instructed to clean up as part of the hire agreement and they failed to do that,” Ms Vogel said.
She said adults involved in hiring the centre were “upset the place was left like that”.
“They’ re disappointed with the young people because now it’s a cost they are going to have to bear,” Ms Vogel said.
Neighbouring resident Teresa Wyatt, who said music could still be heard at 2am, was disgusted with the mess left by the party-goers and urged the council to tighten its approach to hiring.
“I think they need better management of the functions, the parties, in there because ratepayers are paying for that building and our rates are going towards the management of it,” Mrs Wyatt said.
“They need better judgment and need to have tighter rules.”
Ms Vogel said the council had recently reviewed its hirers’ kit and set fees for the community centres, with Westide, Glenecho and Thurgoona also available for 18th and 21st birthday parties.
“It’s unfortunate you get a person or a couple of people who do the wrong thing and spoil it for other young people,” she said.
