Freeway edge overgrown again

07 Nov, 2009 12:00 AM
LONG grass has returned to the sides and median strips of the Albury-Wodonga Freeway.

Areas of the freeway boundaries have been mown recently but in other sections the grass is at head-height following decent spring rains.

The RTA officer in charge of freeway maintenance yesterday did not return several calls from The Border Mail inquiring as to the current timetable of maintenance works.

Albury Deputy Mayor Henk van de Ven said the council also contacted the RTA yesterday seeking an update.

He said the overgrown grass could be unsightly but called for people to be patient on the issue, considering the rain.

“It’s one of those situations; everybody around our area has had the best growing season for six or seven or eight years and long grass on the side of the road is an issue everywhere,” he said.

“I’m sure we’ll see action at some stage once the resources are all in order.”
