EMERGENCY services yesterday ferried fresh supplies to Wangaratta residents who have been stranded by floods since Sunday.
Crews from the Metropolitan Fire Brigade took food and water to about 10 homes in Stamp Lane whose owners decided to stay.
The only way into the area is by boat, with the water yesterday estimated to be up to chest deep.
Metropolitan Fire Brigade commander Greg Pearson said the residents seemed relieved to be receiving help and just see other people.
“They’re all in good spirits and very, very happy to see us,” he said.
“They were very excited and even some of the residents there we’ve actually transported from one property to another so they can take other gifts and see each other.
“So they’re really appreciative of the help that’s been given to them by the crews who have come down and just checked on them and make sure they’re OK, because they’ve been there for five days so it’s a long time.”
It is believed none of the homes have been damaged and are still connected to power.
Mr Pearson said the water was dropping quickly and the homes might be accessible by some vehicles by the end of today.
“The route that we’ve taken in there, probably after another day,” he said.
“The way things are going, you might be able to access it in by four-wheel drive, but it’s a wait and see.”
