The 34-metre high Giant Wheel is more than double the height of the show’s old favourite and second-in-charge of the new wheel, Beau Williams, 18, of Wagga, said it was a good family attraction that wouldn't be affected by Saturday’s forecast wet weather.
“One car fits four to five people so the whole family can ride together and look over the town,” Mr Williams said.
“Everyone can ride this one but not everyone will go upside down.”
Other new attractions include the fun-time puppets and the Mini Bike Stunt Team that starred on Australia’s Got Talent.
Show secretary Sue Hurst said the new attractions should encourage more people through the gates.
“Everyone loves a new ride and everyone loves something new,” Mrs Hurst said.
“We are trying to attract entertainment to cater across the board.
“The stunt bike team are very talented and will interest all age groups while the younger kids will like the puppets.”
Old favourites such as the spinning tea cups and giant slides will also be on offer.
Representative from the Showmen’s Guild, Peter Short, said the show had more than 45 rides and always got the biggest selection of the latest rides in the region.
“The Albury Show is just lucky and fortunate that it falls on the right day and all our capital show commitments are finished,” he said.
“We brought the Crazy Dance ride with us this year which is the more modern and updated version of the octopus ride.
“Lots of the rides at the show are still all the craze over in Europe.”
The show will run until Sunday at the Albury Showgrounds.
