A NEIGHBOUR allegedly heard a woman yell, “I’m going to kill you” soon after a man was shot in the stomach in Glenroy yesterday.
The Kurnell Street resident, who did not wish to be named, said she was awake at home when she heard an altercation nearby about 1am.
She said there was a “little bit” of yelling before the gun went off.
She thought she heard a couple of shots before a woman started screaming.
“I heard her shouting, ‘I’m going to kill you, I’m going to kill you’,” the neighbour said.
“I didn’t go out – I have everything locked.”
The resident said she had lived in the area just under 12 months and before yesterday, she found the street very good and quiet.
That view is also shared by Leila Punola who has lived in Kurnell Street for 23 years.
“It’s always been nice and quiet — I can’t believe it,” she said.
“I don’t know who’s been messing around or what but there’s never been anything here.
“It makes you feel sick to the stomach.”
Ms Punola said she didn’t hear anything at the time when the Wodonga man, 27, was shot standing in the front yard of a nearby home.
She only noticed something had occurred when she woke in the morning and saw numerous police cars in the street.
Rebecca Giddings, who lives in a nearby street, was visiting a home in the area yesterday morning.
She wasn’t surprised by what had happened and said the area in Glenroy was well-known as a “drug area”.
“I rang my mate, it’s my friend’s nan that lives here, and they go, ‘there was a shooting’,” Ms Giddings said.
“I said, ‘I’m coming down to see you.
“My friend’s nan was pretty frightened and shaken, because she’s an old lady.”
Other residents in the street either said they heard and saw nothing, or were too scared to speak out.
