A huge congratulations to our very own Cooper Blair, who last week received third place (Bronze medal) at the State athletics carnival. Cooper competed in the 800 metre race and we are all very proud of his achievements. We would like to acknowledge Nadine Youman who trained Cooper, and his family for the great support they gave him. Well done!

Earlier this week all parents should have received a note regarding school uniforms, which were discussed at a recent P&C meeting. We are looking at ways to make our uniform more affordable for parents and more attractive for our students. The initial meeting will be held at school next Monday at 1pm and all parents, students and staff are most welcome to join us in the staff common room.

The New England Credit Union is continuing to support Guyra Central School through a new account called the Community Partnership Account. A 1% bonus payment is made to the P&C Association each year based on members’ balances who hold this type of account. All you need to do is nominate Guyra Central School as the Recipient Organisation – you don’t even need to have any direct connection with our school. Please support our P&C Association in this very simple fund-raising venture.

Last week our Student Representative Councils and the P&C Association endorsed the school’s Use of Mobile phones, portable computer games, MP3 players/iPods, cameras and similar devices Policy. There is a range of technology available today including mobile telephones, pagers, digital cameras, portable CD and MP3 players/iPods, personal digital assistants and other similar devices. Many of these have the potential to be incorporated appropriately into lessons, opening exciting new approaches to learning. When these technologies are misused by students they can be very disruptive to teaching and learning and in some cases cause harm. All secondary students will bring home a copy of this policy – parents should feel free to contact the school for any clarification.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
