Sensis, the company responsible for producing the White Pages and Yellow Pages, has engaged PDC, a specialist phone book delivery company, to distribute directories for the first time this year.
PDC then has the job of organising contractors to drop off the books across the (02) 60 area, which includes Albury-Wodonga and surrounds.
Complaints received by The Border Mail include up to four phone directories being left at the one property, books being left in the rain, damage from throwing and deliveries not happening at all.
Sensis spokesman Steve Ronchi said one contractor had been dismissed for not delivering phone books to residents’ front doors.
“We are aware of some issues with the current distribution of the book,” Mr Ronchi said.
“We certainly have had feedback directed to us about the state of the phone books and those are things we take very seriously.
“White and Yellow pages are our core business, we put a lot of time and effort into the books and we make sure they are a quality product, so distribution is a crucial step.”
Mr Ronchi urged those with concerns to phone 1800 810 211.
“If they’ve got some good, bad or otherwise experience they should give that number a call and if they have multiple copies we can pick them up,” he said.
Wodonga retiree Terry Clear received four phone books, with two deliveries of two books on Friday afternoon and evening.
“They handed the first two to us and then we got another two that bounced,” Mr Clear said.
“The first time I said ‘I only want one’ and the bloke delivering it went ‘uh-uh-uh’ and so I had to take two.
“All they were interested in was throwing them.”
Lavington resident Leanne Evans said on Saturday morning each residence in her street, Shirleen Crescent, received two directories and she was left with four — two on her porch and two at the side of the house.
