DOCTORS Point resident Peter Tremain fears someone will die unless police and council take action against those using a local roadway as a “racetrack”.
Mr Tremain is disgusted by the behaviour of hoons, who have cut up the roadside and graffitied the road and his front gate.
On Sunday he followed a convoy of four vehicles travelling at high speed through the 50km/h area along Doctors Point Road to Mungabareena Reserve where he was abused and threatened by one of the young people in the vehicles.
Mr Tremain estimated the cars were travelling at up to 120km/h in the local traffic zone shared by walkers, joggers, bike riders and even those on horseback.
He and his brother were able to take photographs of the cars and details of their number plates that he handed over to police.
Yesterday they inspected the damage to the roadside nature strips in the aftermath of Sunday night.
There was also graffiti on Mr Tremain’s fence, letterbox and the roadway outside his home, with specific threats directed at him.
Mr Tremain said the behaviour of the hoons and their subsequent threats had frightened his mother-in-law, 89, who was now afraid to remain at home on her own.
“Unfortunately, it will take someone to die for something to happen,” he said.
“I don’t know what planet they come from.
“They have no respect for public or private property.
“It’s not what Albury is about.”
Mr Tremain said the speeding was nothing new on the road that is used by drivers to access Mungabareena Reserve where they leave evidence of further burn-outs and hoon behaviour.
