Local dance students sparkle on stage

25/09/2008 10:20:00 AM
THE Bombala and Delegate students of the Monaro Dance Centre presented a fantastic show for their 14th Annual Concert on Sunday.

Performing for the first time with the Bombala Rotary Community Choir, the ‘Song and Dance’ spectacular was enjoyed by an enthusiastic capacity audience.

The disco flavour of the first half of the show was introduced by the choir with an ABBA medley, which will be featured on their upcoming third CD.

Dance students displayed their many talents in jazz, tap, ballet and hip hop.

One of the crowd pleasers was ‘The Bongo Show’ performed by all of the tap students together with a percussion group directed by choirmaster Claus Zimmer.

Jess Perkins and Kristie Reed dazzled in their duo, as did Miranda Tomlinson and Simone Tummons who choreographed their farewell performances themselves.

Following intermission sixteen pink princesses, the Pre School Dance students, took to the stage to open Act II where music from stage and screen was the theme.

The choir performed three songs from their ‘Stage Sensations’ CD, while students danced to items from popular Broadway hits and movie musicals.

Guest artists included former Bombala dance students, Kristie Reed and William Tuckerman who performed a beautiful waltz as their choir sang their romantic arrangement of ‘Lara’s Theme’ from the film ‘Doctor Zhivago’.

The show also featured two stunning performances by the award-winning Monaro Dance Centre Performance Troupe.

The finale began with a lively performance choreographed by student teacher, Jess Perkins and finished with the full cast on stage dancing to ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’.

Congratulations must be extended to the Monaro Dance Centre and to Claus Zimmer and the Bombala Rotary Community Choir for a truly memorable show.

The staff at the Bombala High School must also be commended for their patience and understanding regarding the use of their wonderful facilities for this annual event.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
